Securing the Cloud: What's Your Cloud Entry Point?
The move to cloud computing is still froth with questions about the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data moved to the cloud. These questions, and their answers, differ depending on the cloud entry point chosen by the end-user. Potential cloud entry points include Infrastructure-as-a-Service, Platform-as-a-Service, or Software-as-a-Service (IaaS, PaaS, or SaaS) cloud computing solutions. This presentation will review the current state of affairs around cloud computing security, and delve into security considerations end-users should make for each of the differing cloud solution entry points. Wade Holmes is a Technical Solutions Architect for VMware. Wade has over 14 years of experience planning, designing, engineering, architecting and supporting complex computing environments of all scopes and sizes, and has been working with virtualization technology since 2005. Wade spent 9 yeas as a member of IBM Global Services, and in 2005 spearheaded IBM Business Continuity and Resiliency Services first VMware based recovery offering.
In 2009, Wade became the first non-VMware employee worldwide to achieve the VMware Certified Design Expert (VCDX) certification (he later joined VMware in Jan 2010, and now serves as a VCDX panelist). He has also achieved many other certifications throughout his career, including Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), VMware Certified Professional (VCP5, VCP4, VCP3, VCP2), Cloud Security Alliance Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge (CCSK), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), NetApp Certified Implementation Engineer (NCIE), Netapp Certified Data Administrator (NCDA), DRI Associate Business Continuity Professional (ABCP), Falconstor Certified Engineer,Virtuozzo Certified Engineer, and Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP).
Wade is a member of the Center for Internet Security ESX security benchmark panel, and helped to author the CIS ESX 3.5 Security benchmark. Wade holds a Bachelors degree in Information Technology and a Masters Degree in Information Assurance.
