SXEncore: NY Export: Opus Jazz

Synopsis

*SXSW 2012 SXEncore screenings were determined by popular vote on Tugg.com.

Shot on location in New York City and starring an ensemble cast of New York City Ballet dancers, NY Export: Opus Jazz takes Jerome Robbins‘ 1958 “ballet in sneakers” and reimagines it for a new generation in this scripted adaptation. After winning an Audience Award at the 2010 South by Southwest Film Festival, the film aired nationally on PBS’ Great Performances series and was nominated for the Rose d’Or Award.

Director Bio

Jody Lee Lipes' first feature-length screenplay, Confederacy, was selected for the 2011 Sundance Screenwriters Lab. Jody was named one of Variety's 10 Cinematographers To Watch 2011. DP credits include Martha Marcy May Marlene and Tiny Furniture. Jody recently completed shooting and directing episodes of the first season of HBO's Girls.
