Restoring History: 100 Years of Universal Films

Experience the process of restoring, archiving and curating a centennial of movie magic with Universal¹s Jeff Pirtle (Director of Archives and Collections), Jeanne Cordova (Vice President, Marketing, Publicity and Special Events) and Peter Schade (Vice President, Technical Services). Panelists will discuss the film restoration process, particularly as it relates to Universal’s Centennial titles To Kill a Mockingbird, All Quiet on the Western Front, Jaws, The Sting, Out of Africa, Frankenstein and Schindler¹s List.

Jeanne Cordova VP, Mktg, Pub & Special Events NBC Universal

Jeanne Cordova was named Senior Vice President Marketing, PR and Special Events for NBCUniversal Operations and Technical Services in January 2012. She is responsible for all areas of marketing for our groups on the Universal lot, New York, Chicago and other key locations. She directly oversees publicity, promotions, communications, advertising, customer relations and special events with focus on enhancing the awareness of NBC Universal production and post production services. Cordova reports directly to Dave Beanes, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Universal Operations Group, while having additional reporting responsibilities to John Wallace, President of Media Works.
Jeanne previously served as Vice President, Marketing, Publicity and Special Events for NBC Universal Media Works. Prior to that she was Director of Marketing and Publicity for Digital, Television and Studio Operations, where she was responsible for marketing and publicity campaigns to promote both production and post production services on the Universal lot. Jeanne oversaw the launch of Universal Studios production website and the grand openings of BluWave Audio, Universal Studios Digital Services and the team for the recent New York Street location re-opening.

Prior to Universal, Cordova was the Manager, Marketing and Sales of Backlot Operations for Paramount Pictures. At Paramount she developed the marketing and sales department, handled customer relations and planned corporate events. Before joining Paramount she was the Manager of Entertainment Sales for American Airlines and Sales Manager for USAir.

Cordova received her MBA from Pepperdine University and her BA in Marketing and Promotional Administration from Southern Illinois University.

Jeff Pirtle Dir, Archives & Collections NBC Universal

Jeff Pirtle, Director of Archives & Collections, is responsible for the collection, preservation, and exhibition of NBCUniversal’s significant historical records, photographs, and artifacts according to professional archival and museum standards. His department is the central reference source for historic information, and he serves as spokesperson for the history of NBCUniversal, as well as the company’s productions.

Pirtle belongs to the Society of American Archivists, currently acting as Past Chair of the Business Archives Section. He also serves on the board of Campo de Cahuenga’s Historical Memorial Association, and as President of the Texas Tech Alumni Association’s Los Angeles Chapter. Pirtle also volunteers as a Specialist with the California State Military Reserve’s Center for Military History Unit.

Pirtle joined Universal Studios in July 2002 as Archivist for Manuscripts and Special Collections. Before Universal, Pirtle served as Museum and Archives Project Manager for the J.C. Penney Company headquartered in Plano, Texas. Pirtle has also worked for the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, and served as a graduate intern with the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles. Jeff holds a BA in History as well as an MA in Museum Science, both from Texas Tech University.

Peter Schade VP Technical Svcs NBC Universal

Peter Schade, VP of Technical Services, joined Universal Studios in August of 1999 as Director of Worldwide Home Video and TV Servicing. Schade leads the team responsible for creating the company’s video and digital file assets at both archival and servicing levels. Before Universal, Schade worked for Worldvision Entertainment, a Spelling company, as director of their worldwide content distribution organization. Schade started his career at Turner Entertainment in 1989 working in that company’s domestic and international distribution departments and eventually running the Technical Services group. Schade holds a BA in Telecommunications and Film and an MA in Organizational Leadership.
