Restaurant owners, chefs and their kitchen/wait staff are not only lovers of food, but music as well. Just about every type of kitchen you walk into regardless of size or location blare tunes over the speakers throughout their busy operating hours. Celebrity Chefs such as Anthony Bourdain and Marco Pierre White are often seen wearing rock t-shirts at events or on their respective television shows. Musicians enjoy good food and dining at restaurants whether they're on the road, at home or on holiday. The everyday consumer also likes food and music. Recently, the culinary world has successfully been blending and working with the music industry, creating fun and tasty marketing opportunities that have brought in events garnering revenue as well as the two things people love most together: food and music. Some of these opportunities include television shows such as IFC's "Dinner with the Band," food and beverage sponsorships/presence at music festivals and promotional music samplers. In this panel, we'll focus on and discuss some of these opportunities, accomplishments and outcome of branding the food world with the music scene nationally.
BEV CHIN has over-extended her stomach and credit limit at taco trucks and haute eateries throughout the world. A San Francisco State Radio and TV graduate, Bev has marketing accolades at A & M, 4AD, Virgin and Rykodisc. She’s combined gustatory indulgence with television production jobs at successful network television food shows. Bev has snuck her obsession for food into projects at her consulting company, Scorch Marketing. Bev is launching her food blog "Every Bite Counts" this spring. Be assured it has a great soundtrack.
JUDY MILLER SILVERMAN owns and operates Motormouthmedia, a boutique PR firm based in LA that represents a wide array of bands including: Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, Deerhunter, Sharon Jones + The Dap Kings, Yeasayer, Flying Lotus , Surfer Blood and many more. She loves eating high/low (street corners to fancy dining) and considers food her passion second only to music.
JAMIE LAUREN, formerly of much-lauded Absinthe in San Francisco, CA, is currently Executive Chef at perennial favorite Beechwood in Venice, CA. Lauren was named Restaurant Hospitality's "Rising Star Chef," was the sole Bay Area contestant on Bravo's "Top Chef" Season 5, and participated on "Top Chef" All-Stars Edition.
MERIC LONG is the singer/guitarist for San Francisco band the Dodos. Before becoming a full time touring musician, Meric worked as a line cook for seven years at the esteemed restaurant Zuni in San Francisco, as well as other restaurants in the bay area. Although making a complete transition from cook to musician, he still brings his passion and interest in food out on the road, traveling and eating his way through cities in the US as well as in Europe.
DARIN BRESNITZ is the President of Diabolik Productions and has been producing critically acclaimed programming for Television, Web and Radio since 2005. Known for his distinctive approach towards food, events and music, he has created notable shows like Dinner With The Band, Kitchen Conspirators and Snacky Tunes with his brother, Greg.
