The internet has become a critical tool for law enforcement.This presentation will demonstrate ways it is used for investigations and community outreach, discuss privacy issues and controversies, and explore the reach and limits of the law when police go online.

Kirby Plessas, president and CEO of Plessas Experts Network, Inc., is an Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) expert, an Army veteran trained as an Arabic linguist, and worked at the Defense Intelligence Agency for Radiance Technologies, Inc. She has previously been declared the Department of Homeland Security Technical Expert for Internet Research. She consults and speaks to multiple national security and law enforcement entities about using Open Source and Social Media (Web 2.0) for their unique needs.
