Paul Reubens is best known for his character, Pee-wee Herman, which he created while a member of the famed Los Angeles improv group, The Groundlings. From its premiere in 1981, the stage production of The Pee-wee Herman Show quickly gained a national audience when it was broadcast by HBO. In 1985, Reubens co-wrote the hit film, Pee-wee's Big Adventure. He went on to create, co-write and co-direct Pee-wee’s Playhouse on CBS. The series earned 22 Emmy Awards over its five seasons. Recently, The Pee-wee Herman Show completed an acclaimed run on Broadway and was filmed, once again, for HBO. In addition to Pee-wee, Reubens has appeared on TV in 30 Rock, Pushing Daisies, Reno 911, Everybody Loves Raymond and Murphy Brown. His film credits include Life During Wartime, Mystery Men, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Blow. He will next be heard as Jokey Smurf in the upcoming film Smurfs and starring in David O. Russell’s Nailed.
In January of 2010, Reubens starred in, produced and co-wrote a new version of The Pee-wee Herman Show which completed a critically acclaimed four week run at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. Reubens brought the show to Broadway in Fall 2011, opening to rave reviews. Three decades after his first HBO special, Reubens will return to the network in an exclusive of the show when HBO premieres a presentation of The Pee-wee Herman Show On Broadway this March.
