Research Physiologist
U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine

Dr. Gwin’s research focuses on the effects of macronutrient and energy metabolism, particularly protein, on muscle physiology, body composition, and physical performance, as well as the interactions of sex-based differences, eating behaviors, and sleep habits with these outcomes. The primary purpose of Dr. Gwin’s research is to develop dietary interventions to enhance or maintain Service Member health and performance. Her current work addresses 1) recovery nutrition and determining the science basis for military rations that deliver optimal protein nutrition during stress such as energy deficits and sleep loss and 2) unique energy requirements of both female and male Service Members during sustained military training and operations.
