Janel Thamkul

Janel Thamkul is the Deputy General Counsel at Anthropic where she spearheads strategic initiatives to enable the transformative potential of AI while ensuring its ethical and responsible development. She handles a wide range of issues across the company, covering R&D, commercial and product functions, and external stakeholder engagement. Prior to Anthropic, Janel led Google Research's product counsel team supporting AI and emerging technology research and product development, from machine learning and foundation models to computer vision and more. Janel earned her Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from UCLA, an Associate's Degree in Fashion Design from FIDM, and a J.D. degree from the University of California, Berkeley - School of Law.
