Juliana Cherston

Brinson Prize Postdoctoral Fellow
Center For Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian

Juliana earned her PhD from the MIT Media Lab ('22) and BA in physics from Harvard University ('13). In recent years, Juliana has been developing sensors for cosmic dust metrology made of large-area, stow-and-deploy capable materials - for instance, sensors that can be integrated into spacecraft thermal blankets. By measuring the momentum, and eventually the trajectory and composition of incident dust, these sensors might enable searches for exotic dust populations of scientific intrigue. At the CfA, Juliana will be working on techniques for interstellar matter characterization. Juliana is particularly interested in bridging new technologies into fundamental science.
