Marion Deichmann

Marion Deichmann was born in Germany in 1932. Her parents moved the family to
Luxembourg in 1934. Soon after arriving in Luxembourg, the family decided to split up:
Marion’s father went to Brazil, and she and her mother remained in Europe.
With the German invasion of Luxembourg in 1940, Marion and her mother fled to Paris.
On July 16, 1942, during the “Vél d’Hiv” roundup, Marion’s mother was arrested,
interned at Drancy and deported to Auschwitz. She was murdered upon arrival.
Marion through the help of the resistance was moved to multiple hiding places, until
1943, where she was placed with François and Angèle Parigny, in
Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët a village in Normandie. In June 1944, shortly after the D-Day
landings, Marion and the Parigny family evacuated to the countryside. They returned to
Saint-Hilaire following the liberation of Paris in August 1944.
Marion speaks extensively on a local and state level about her experiences for the
Speakers’ Bureau of Illinois Holocaust Museum. Her book, “Her Name Shall Remain
Unforgotten,” is dedicated to her mother, Alice Deichmann.
