Andrew Kamau, currently the Managing Director for International Programs at Columbia University's Energy Opportunity Lab, boasts a distinguished career as an energy and policy expert spanning over three decades. Formerly Kenya's Principal Secretary for Petroleum and Mining, he played a pivotal role in transformative government initiatives. Under his leadership, there was a notable increase in the adoption of Liquid Petroleum Gas, reducing reliance on traditional cooking fuels. Andrew championed the shift from road to rail and barges for petroleum transportation, reducing costs and carbon footprint.
Internationally, Andrew's expertise extends to facilitating complex energy transactions. Notably, he successfully negotiated the rehabilitation of the Inga Hydroelectric Dam in the Democratic Republic of Congo, fostering commercial mining activity. As a thought leader, he actively contributes to the energy transition dialogue, emphasizing sustainable development.
Beyond his professional achievements, Andrew engages in philanthropy as the chairman of the Komati Foundation, focusing on leadership development.
