Climate Communicator/Activist
The Activist’s Media Handbook

David Fenton has spent 50 years promoting social causes. He founded the first progressive public relations firm, Fenton, in 1982. Called ‘the Robin Hood of public relations” by the National Journal, he has worked to protect a livable climate, reduce environmental toxins, reverse the nuclear arms race, overthrow apartheid in South Africa, and promote social, racial, gender and economic justice. His book “The Activist’s Media Handbook: Lessons from 50 Years as a Progressive Agitator” was published last year with an introduction by linguist George Lakoff. Fenton started his career as a photojournalist for underground newspapers in the late 1960s. His book “SHOTS: An American Photographer’s Journal” was published in 2005. He was the Co-Producer of the 1979 “No-Nukes” concerts with Bruce Springsteen and others, and previously served as an Editor at High Times magazine and as Director of Public Relations for Rolling Stone. Fenton sold his firm 6 years ago to work full time on climate change communications. His website is www.davidfentonactivist.com
