Jessica is a dynamic facilitator of transformation, who is passionate about healing at the root. Her work focuses on changing the world, one relationship at a time. She combines psychedelic medicine, psychoeducation, and a cornucopia of modalities to guide clients in healing the root relationship to Self. She works with people all over the world; she facilitates group classes in Oakland, CA, and she mentors practitioners who are new to psychedelic medicine. She regularly engages in medicine work for her own healing and sharpening.

Jessica has always been interested in effecting big change. Socially, Jessica was involved in political organizing over decades. Spiritually, Jessica practiced Buddhism and studied Eastern Philosophy. Academically, she thought she was going to effect big change by dedicating herself to the world of mental health. Jessica was a traditional counselor for almost fifteen years, exploring every nook and cranny of that world, desperately seeking a skill or modality that really helped clients move the needle and make long-term change. After several years of searching, she was filled with disillusionment in her chosen field. She decided to take a sabbatical and move into a Buddhist Center, where she was a working resident for two years. During that time, Jessica encountered psychedelics and began using them for her own healing. Soon after, she had a quantum leap experience that expanded her understanding: There would be no skill or modality that could help in the traditional paradigm of mental health because the paradigm itself was entirely missing the most healing piece.

Jessica came to understand that the field of traditional mental health is focused on disorder, which can make sense from one kind of lens – she is not aiming for a takedown. It can be very helpful to have a name for a group of symptoms you are experiencing. It can be such a relief to understand that there is something happening to you or with you, as opposed to something that is you. However, without an understanding of the fundamental order that lies beneath the disorder, the disorder is all we have to cling to and identify with. It still winds up being all we can see. “I have depression” slowly becomes “I am depression” over time – even if we don’t consciously think it, we unconsciously slip in that belief. This belief is the very toxin that sickens us. How can we get better if we are constantly soaking in toxins? If we believe our pathology is the baseline? If our work is to always pull ourselves up from depression? That can make life feel even harder and less worth living.

Jessica now works to help people understand that there is a fundamental order underneath all the disorder and pathology. We do not have to pull ourselves up out of depression. In fact, we can let go, sink through it, and end up being caught in the safety net of fundamental order - a solid foundation of wholeness and wellness that is the birthright of every human being. Healing the root relationship to Self is building a relationship with this foundation. When our strongest relationship is with our disorder, we will never have a chance to be truly well. When we can learn to familiarize ourselves with the part of us that is well and whole, all of a sudden we have a shot at a life we previously thought could only belong to other people. This is healing at the root.

As a survivor of childhood trauma and living in a body with CPTSD, Jessica understands the work intimately because it is the rock she still leans on and the boat that has carried her through the worst storms. She is in love with her work, and she practices every day. She is very vocal about the fact that being “fully healed” is a myth. She is not fully healed and is not promising other people that they can be fully healed. She is also very vocal about the fact that over time, we all begin to fall in love with the work because it heals and liberates us.

It brings Jessica deep meaning and joy to accompany others through the dense fog of healing. She is the practitioner she wished she had as she was moving through decades of confusion, trying to sort out her own mental and emotional health. Jessica fosters people’s abilities to connect with their own natural, foundational, innate blueprint, and to let that lead the way. Psychedelic medicine is the best tool that Jessica has found, thus far, for connecting to, and learning to trust this foundation. It is her highest aim to help others learn to use this tool skillfully to heal and liberate themselves, so that we may also heal and liberate each other. This is changing the world one relationship at a time.
