Dr. Joan Hoffmann is program manager for Alternative Computing Paradigms at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory responsible for a research portfolio encompassing quantum, trustworthy and neuromimetic computing, and computational physics. She was a leader in building APL’s core Quantum Information Science team, comprising 20 scientists. She has a broad background in experimental physics and extensive experience developing nanostructured materials and sensing devices and carbon nanomaterials. In 2018 she was appointed to the Defense Science Board Task Force on Applications of Quantum Technologies, a civilian committee advising the U.S. Department of Defense on scientific and technical matters.
