Niko McCarty

As a bioengineer and writer, Niko’s goal is to highlight the people, ideas, and scientific breakthroughs that are driving progress. His peer-reviewed research has appeared in Nature Communications, eLife, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and elsewhere. He has previously developed and published gene-editing technologies to simultaneously make dozens of changes to the genomes of living cells and developed early AI tools for automated science news writing.
On the academic front, Niko holds a master’s degree in bioengineering from Caltech, a master’s in synthetic biology from Imperial College London (where he studied as a Fulbright Scholar), and a master’s in science journalism from New York University.
