James Whitfield

Dr. James Whitfield is an education leader and advocate. He was a fast-rising and beloved school leader in the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District, and the first Black principal of Colleyville Heritage HS, when at a 2021 school board meeting, a failed school board candidate accused Whitfield of “implementing Critical Race Theory” into the curriculum, a charge he denied. The accusations and defenses that followed yielded a separation agreement in which Whitfield was paid through August 2023. At a board meeting, one trustee took time to “express personal regret” for not speaking up when Whitfield was “being unjustly attacked.”
